The most fence per dollar — when it is installed correctly

Chain link has an image problem it does not entirely deserve. It is still the most linear feet of secure, durable fence you can buy for a given budget, it does not rot or need repainting, and in black PVC-coated form it visually disappears into a yard in a way most people do not expect until they see it installed. For a large perimeter, a dog run, a commercial property or a rear property line where budget matters more than appearance, nothing else competes on cost per foot.

It is also the material where installation quality is most visible over time. A chain link fence is a tension system: the terminal posts at every corner, end and gate carry the pull of the entire run. Set those shallow or without concrete and the fence slowly drags itself out of square. Hang the fabric without stretching it properly and it sags within a year or two. Almost every tired-looking chain link fence you have seen failed for one of those two reasons — not because of the material.

We install it across the full range: black PVC-coated dog runs and rear yards in Bergen and Morris County backyards, galvanized perimeters through the Paterson and Clifton urban grid, and commercial-grade security fencing with access gates for businesses, multi-family properties and municipal sites. Same crew on all of it, terminal posts in concrete below frost, fabric stretched to proper tension.

Four decisions that separate a chain link fence that lasts

Chain link is a tension system. These are the details that keep it square and taut instead of sagging.

Concrete

Terminal posts set in concrete

Every corner, end and gate post carries the tension of the entire run. These get set in concrete below frost — skip that and the fence pulls itself out of line within a season.

Tensioned

Fabric stretched, not hung

Chain link is only as good as its tension. We stretch the fabric properly and tie it at correct intervals so it stays taut instead of developing the sag that makes an old chain link fence look tired.

Galv or PVC

Finish chosen for the setting

Galvanized is the workhorse and the lowest cost. Black or green PVC-coated costs more but visually recedes into a yard and adds a corrosion layer — usually the better residential choice.

Slats

Privacy without switching materials

Privacy slats convert an open chain link run into a screened one at a fraction of the cost of a solid fence. Useful for dog runs, pool equipment areas and commercial perimeters.

From free estimate to final walkthrough

Four transparent steps, permits and old-fence removal included, with a workmanship warranty at the end.

1

Free on-site estimate

We walk the line, measure, confirm your property boundary, discuss height, gauge, finish and gate placement, and hand you a written itemized estimate. No pressure, no obligation.

2

Spec & permits

We settle galvanized versus PVC-coated, height, mesh size, whether you want privacy slats and how the gates should swing or slide — then file the township permit and coordinate the utility markout.

3

Set, stretch, hang

Terminal posts set in concrete below frost, line posts spaced correctly, fabric stretched to proper tension, rails and gates hung and adjusted. Most residential runs finish in one to two days.

4

Walkthrough & warranty

We check tension and gate operation with you, adjust anything that needs it, haul away the old fence and debris, and hand over your written workmanship warranty.

What you get when Fence Pro by Bruno installs your chain link

The most fence per dollar

Chain link covers more linear feet for less money than any other material we install — which is why it still wins for large perimeters, dog runs and commercial sites.

Fast turnaround

Fewer components and no on-site cutting means most residential chain link runs go up in one to two days once the permit clears.

Commercial and municipal experience

Security perimeters, access gates, ball fields, utility enclosures and multi-family properties across northern New Jersey — built to commercial spec, not residential.

200+ five-star Google reviews

Fifteen-plus years installing across every county we serve, with the same crew and the same standard on a 40-foot dog run as on a full commercial perimeter.

Every permit filed for you

Application, plot plan, fee and inspection scheduling — included in your written estimate, not billed as an extra.

Real people, real callbacks

Bruno or Maria answers the phone. Questions during the job get answered the same day, and the workmanship warranty is in writing.

★★★★★
"We needed a big yard fenced for two dogs without spending a fortune. They did black PVC-coated chain link and honestly you barely notice it from the house. Tight as a drum and the gates swing perfectly."

Chain link installation questions, answered

Cost, finishes, privacy slats, dog fencing, pool code and commercial specs — the questions we get on nearly every estimate.

How much does chain link fence installation cost in New Jersey?
Chain link is the lowest cost per linear foot of any material we install, which is why it is still the default for large perimeters, dog runs and commercial sites. Price moves with height, mesh gauge, galvanized versus PVC-coated finish, number and type of gates, and whether you add privacy slats. Commercial-grade specifications cost more than residential. We measure on site and give you a written itemized estimate, and 0% financing is available.
Galvanized or PVC-coated — what is the difference?
Galvanized is zinc-coated steel: the traditional silver chain link, the most economical option, and the standard for commercial and utility work. PVC-coated adds a bonded vinyl layer in black or green over the galvanized core. It costs more, but it adds a corrosion barrier and — more importantly for most homeowners — it visually recedes into a yard instead of standing out. For residential properties we usually recommend black PVC-coated.
Can a chain link fence be made private?
Yes. Privacy slats weave vertically through the mesh and convert an open run into a screened one for a fraction of what a solid fence costs. They do not give you the complete visual block of a board-on-board or vinyl privacy fence, but for a dog run, a pool equipment area, a work yard or a commercial perimeter they are usually the right economic answer.
How long does chain link fence installation take?
Most residential chain link runs are completed in one to two days on site. Larger commercial perimeters take longer depending on footage, gate count and whether the site needs clearing first. The permit timeline is usually the longer part of the schedule, and it depends on your township — we file as soon as you approve the estimate.
Is chain link a good dog fence?
It is one of the best, and it is the most common reason homeowners call us for it. It is strong, it cannot be chewed through the way some materials can, it gives you clear sight lines to the dog, and it covers a large yard economically. The two things that matter are height chosen for your specific dog and a bottom that is properly secured — a determined digger will get under a fence that is only tied at the top.
Does chain link fence work for pool code in NJ?
Generally not as a pool barrier. New Jersey pool code requires a barrier that resists climbing and has openings small enough to keep a small child out, and standard chain link mesh gives a foothold. Ornamental aluminum is the material we install for pool enclosures. Chain link is still a good choice for the outer property perimeter around a pool property — just not as the pool barrier itself.
Do you handle the township permit for a chain link fence?
Yes. We prepare the zoning application, supply the plot plan showing height, location and setbacks, pay the fee and schedule any required inspection. It is part of your written estimate. Commercial and multi-family projects sometimes require additional review, which we handle the same way.
Do you install commercial and security chain link fencing?
Yes — it is a significant part of what we do. Commercial-grade galvanized and PVC-coated perimeters, security fencing, access and cantilever gates, ball field and court enclosures, utility and equipment yards, and multi-family property perimeters across northern New Jersey. Commercial work is specified differently from residential: heavier gauge, larger posts and different hardware. We quote it that way.
